Seventty years ago today, 353 Japanesse planes launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. 2,402 Americans were murdered and 1,282 were wounded during the worse attack on American soil at that time! Just like that the US was thrust into a war they had tried to avoid for several years.
Today I pay my solomn respects to all those who have given their lives for the freedom of this country. President Regan said that freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction. He is absolutely right, and I think that the day will shortly come that freedom is in danger of extinction again.
On this solomn day I would like to ask two questions:
1. Could this happen again? Attacks on American Soil? World War?
I think many Americans believe that the world is too civilized for world war, and that the country is safe from foreign attack on our soil. They are wrong. We are NOT more civilized, only more technologicly advanced. This makes a Pearl Harbor attack even more possible than ever before.
The events that happened on September 11, 2001 prove that America is vulnerable to attack on our soil. As the fiat monetary system collapses, and social unrest spreads throughout the world, war is more and more likely.
From the Chinese Real Estate bubble that makes ours look like an ant hill, to the EU debt crisis; our current fiat system will fail. All historical indications say it will be reset by war. It may not, but it is definately possible now more than it has been in a long time.
2. If required, will our young men and women sacrifice their lives for their children to remain free?
There are plenty of brave men and women willing to serve our country and it's citizens. Judging by the dismal recruiting numbers and pathetic salaries (especially compared to congress), the citizens do not support them as much as needed. I believe america is great! When called upon, I believe we will answer the call.
I hope that it doesn't come to war. The government is corrupt; every part. It needs to be returned to what the founders intended.
- Limited Government
- Free Market (what we have now is not capitalism)
- Less taxes (the income tax is unconstitutional)
- Less pay for politicians
- Stricter rules on term limits, contributions and insider trading.
Hard times are ahead, but America will survive! Freedom will survive in you an me. I just hope it won't take war to wake up America to the slow errosion of freedom that is happening from within. That alone, may be our greatest threat.
