Financial Survival Kit

What do you need to be prepared for the future financial turmoil? How can you survive?

Should I Buy Gold?

It seems like everyone is a gold bug these days, but is it the right thing for you?

What Are The Chances?

With all this "end of the world" hype going on, maybe we should consider the chances. What are the chances of a civilization threatening event?

How Much Insurance Do I Need?

Insurance is an extremely broad topic. Hopefully this generalization on the different types and amounts will help straighten things out a bit.

Iraqi Dinar: Scam or Scoop?

Some say it's an easy way to make a million bucks! But do you understand currency markets enough to take advantage?

The financial world we live in is just as wild, if not more, than the mountains and woods we walk through. We are told that the fundamentals of our economy are strong, but we can feel that something is wrong. My unique financial background and survival passion make Financial Survivalist and excellent place to learn and share.

Communism / Socialism in Action

A couple of weeks ago I had a conversation with a cashier who was appalled to hear that the US was and is a socialist nation. Whether you want to believe it or not, the United States is headed more and more toward a socialist utopia. Many people think this is a good thing, but every step towards socialism is a step away from freedom.

Probably the biggest leap toward socialist recently is Obamacare (ie Afordable Care Act) though it doesn't deal with healthcare as much as health insurance. There is a difference between insurance and access to care.

Canadian Healthcare Wait Limits

Although life-threatening cases are dealt with immediately, some services needed are non-urgent and patients are seen at the next-available appointment in their local chosen facility.
The median wait time in Canada to see a special physician is a little over four weeks with 89.5% waiting fewer than 90 days.[52]
The median wait time for diagnostic services such as MRI and CAT scans [53] is two weeks with 86.4% waiting fewer than 90 days.[52]
The median wait time for surgery is four weeks with 82.2% waiting fewer than 90 days.[52]
Another study by the Commonwealth Fund found that 57% of Canadians reported waiting 30 days (4 weeks) or more to see a specialist, broadly in line with the current official statistics. A quarter (24%) of all Canadians waited 4 hours or more in the emergency room.[54]
Dr. Brian Day was once quoted as saying "This is a country in which dogs can get a hip replacement in under a week and in which humans can wait two-to-three years."

Other Examples of Socialism in Action

Chinese Ghost Malls
Stillborn Baby Found Alive in Morgue
Preventable Blindness in North Korea

What About Obama's American Health Scare Stories?
Obama has spoken many times about his mother who struggled with insurance companies and cancer at the same time. However, she was fully insured. In fact her struggle was to get the deductible paid by the insurance company as well. All of her medical bills and living expenses were covered by insurance and she was left with only a few hundred dollars a month for deductibles.

If Obama opens his mouth it's a lie! In fact yesterday he lied saying, "The truth is on our side." So he even lies about lying. Then again, that is what liars do. I remember the stories that he toured with while promoting Obamacare were lies too, though I cannot find them.

Competition = Improvement
Personal Reward motivates people to take risk and compete. Competition creates better prices and product improvements. Socialism destroys personal reward and competition. It creates a stagnant product base with decreasing quality. It doesn't matter what the industry is, substandard is the result of socialism.

I'm Heading For the Hills

My Thoughts Thursday
I'm Heading For The Hills!

I believe that within my lifetime I will head for the hills. I am not some crazy fringe right wing coo-coo. I am a 3.97 GPA, BS Business Finance Magna Cum Laude Graduate. I love economics, finance, history and politics. I also love freedom.

Some people believe that we can tell the future by looking at the past. It is also said that history repeats itself. It's simple cause and affect. Do one thing and get a specific result. Specific government/economic/monetary action causes specific results. Therefore, by analyzing political and economic policies we can determine the future of our political and economic state.

The world is heading toward a "New World Order." There are evil forces in this world, and they are hard at work while the common freedom loving man is sleeping. Freedom is in jeopardy. If you say that they call you crazy, because they know you're right.

There are two types of socialist/liberals/progressives; 1. useful idiots, 2. evil power hungry idiots. The useful idiots are ignorant of and submissive to the manipulation and control imposed by the evil power hungry idiots. Nevertheless, both categories destroy the freedom loving way of life.

"If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth" (President Ronald Reagan). If you think otherwise you yourself are ignorant. Study history. Study finance. Not what someone tells you, but what you can read and find yourself. Go to the source! You will see what I see and know what I know. You will also have joined the minority of well informed individuals. You will know that within my life time, and perhaps your's, I will head for the hills.

My Thoughts Thursday: True Financial Freedom

There are two ways to financial freedom: 1. Decide that money doesn't matter. 2. Earn enough money that money doesn't matter. Which one is best?

1. Decide That Money Doesn't Matter

I have seen people with this attitude. Thanks to debt, they seem to have everything; two nice cars, big house, pool, nice furniture, latest gadgets. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long. Eventually the payments catch up with them and they loose it all. Sometimes they end up working for the rest of their lives because they haven't saved a penny.

2. Earn Enough Money That Money Doesn't Matter

These are the people who work like a dwarf in a diamond mine. They spend 50-60 hours every week trying to succeed. Some of them make it to "success." Others waste away their lives and never make it there. Either way, only very few succeed before they are in the last part of their lives.

3. Both

I think the trick is a little of both. Money does matter, but it can't buy you happiness. Life is to short to spend it doing something you don't love. Find something you love and do that. Be happy with a lower standard of living and live within your means. Save your money and enjoy life.

My Thoughts Thursday: Security Does NOT Equal Fear

My Thoughts Thursday
Security Does NOT Equal Fear

The other day I was knocking doors in Arizona and I ran into a Jamaican Guy who said he didn't believe in security. "Security means you're afraid," he said. He went on to explain that there are million things that can happen to you. By acting to stop or avoid all or one of them it is acting on fear of that thing.

I told him that if you prepare you will not fear. Preparing and protecting your family DOES NOT mean you are afraid. Preppers are some of the most secure people I know. I told him, "You could get hit by a car crossing the street, but that doesn't mean you don't look both ways before you cross." If you're afraid of the street, you avoid the street. If you are prepared, you learn how to cross the street and you face it.

Getting a security system is not an act of fear. It is an act of preparedness. Any step toward preparing for disaster adds to your security and peace of mind. It doesn't mean you're afraid. Just the opposite.

Financial Survival = Emergency Prep

My Thoughts Thursday

I was thinking this morning and I asked myself, "What is Financial Survival?" As I continued my thought, I realized that financial survival often looks like emergency preparedness. The reason why is that many emergencies are financial emergencies. Even if they don't start as a financial emergency, they can have financial consequences.

EXAMPLE: House Fire. If your house catches fire, the emmediate emergency is the fire, but it will deafinately have financial concequences.

Emergency Preparation that doubles as Financial Survival:

Proper Insurance - as in the example above, the proper insurance will mediate the financial disaster

Food Storage - Losing an income can be devistating. One of the biggest expenses for a family is food. Being able to rely on food storage durring this kind of emergency can be invaluable.

72hr Kit - Your 72 hour kit should have a decent amount of cash in small denominations. For me, some of that cash is junk silver which gives me US currency AND silver in an emergency.

As you can see there are several way that preparing for an emergency already makes you a financial survivalist. There are many more not listed here. If you prepare, you will not fear.

My Thoughts Thursday: Chicken Little

My Thoughts Thursday
Chicken Little

Sometimes I feel like Chicken Little. I run around screaming how the sky is falling. Then again, most of the things I scream about take a long time to fall. Someone once said, "The market can stay afloat longer than you think, and crash faster than you believe."

As I've said before, history tells us what is coming if we remain on our current path; economic collapse,  enslavement and war. I am a financial survivalist so I don't have to fear. I prepare for what may come in a way that will make me excel if it doesn't come.

I am so eager to get people's attention because we are at a turning point. We are running out of time to change our fate. The western way of life is in danger. Power hungry people and confused politicians are eager to hand out empty promises in exchange for power.

I think we all should be like chicken little. Speak up. Stand up. If you don't stand for something, you stand for nothing and that is exactly what you will have. If you feel like you don't know enough, educate yourself. Some people don't care about politics, but IT IS YOUR DUTY as a citizen, especially in these troubled times.

Be Smart and Thrive.

Non-Fiction Friday: I'm Falling Apart

Today I am not doing Non-Fiction Friday. I am far too stressed out. I decided to pay someone to cut the foundation and it's good I did. A lot easier, though more expensive. Today the window openings for the egress windows were cut, I installed the windows and framed them in.

I proceeded to the downstairs shower when I realized the "rough" in was actually suppose to be a "perfect" in. I'm about 1" off. I figured out a fix and then proceeded to mess up the fix. Now I have to hammer out a bunch of concrete and redo the plumbing. It's like my worse fears come true, though it's not the end of the world.

So after fixing a toilet for one of my tenants, I finally make my way home and decide to check on my Chilian Rose Hair Tarantula. I'm not a huge spider fan, but accepted the Tarantula as an adoption and since have become very fond of her. I named her Sheba, short for Bathsheba. I haven't seen her in about a week and decided to check on her tonight. She looked dead and disfigured. After pulling her out of her burrow and flipping her over I realized she was molting.

I'm such an idiot. The worse thing you can do to a tarantula is move it during a molt. Looked it up and she probably has a 20% chance of living. I'm such an idiot. It's not the first pet I've killed either. I accidentally poisoned a snake in high school and last year left my gecko in my car to die. I'm such an idiot. The only thing I can do now is wait and see if Sheba lives. The last thing I want to do is review a business book. So any way, next week I'll give you a really good book. As for now, good night and have a good weekend. Pray for Sheba.

Am I Doing Everything Wrong?

My Thoughts Thursday
Will I Mess It Up?

As I sit on the precipice of cutting the egress windows for a flip I am doing, I ask myself, "Am I doing it right? Am I going to mess everything up?" My mentor, Greg Clevery, told me about how he had to redo egress windows once because he had the wrong code requirements. I looked up the codes and found the minimum requirements for egress windows and ordered my windows accordingly.

Now, I don't have the chainsaw with a diamond blade to cut the foundation, and I can't find a place to rent it. I figure I'll have to use the circular saw to cut the concrete on both sides, then hammar it out, and finish by cutting the rebar. It's going to be a mess. I'm not excited to do it, and if I had to do it twice I would cry.

So, the time comes for me to gird my loins, suck it up and do it. In business, investing and survival, there are risks. The only way to succeed is to learn how to mitigate your risk, not eliminate it. If you never take risks, you'll never succeed. You miss 100% of the shots your never take.

Therefore, tomorrow, as the rain subsides and the tool rentals begin, I will start destroying my foundation and cutting a huge hole into the side of my house. I'm sure all will be well, but until then my message to all is HAVE COURAGE. There is no other way.
