The financial world we live in is just as wild, if not more, than the mountains and woods we walk through. We are told that the fundamentals of our economy are strong, but we can feel that something is wrong. My unique financial background and survival passion make Financial Survivalist and excellent place to learn and share.

Rabbit Farming

Around the world rabbits are farmed as a common meat. In europe there are special breads of rabbit used for this. However, here in the united states, most rabbits are pets, and eating rabbits is left to the hunter/trapper.

However, rabbits are a great source of meat for self-reliant living and emergency prepping. They are easy and quickly bred, they grow fast, they eat veggie scraps and don't take up a lot of space. They poop great fertilizer for your garden and their skins make great clothing. They really are an amazing animal for any prepper.

Recently I did a youtube search about farming rabbits and I found the "Survival Doc" as he calls himself. I watched a 6 part series on how to raise rabbits for their meat and it is an excellent series. The survival doc touches on how to keep, grow, breed, kill and butcher the rabbits. He is very thorough, so if you get you get queasy at the sight of blood, I wouldn't watch past the third video.

Needless to say, the survival doc has gained a fan. I will definitely be watching more of his videos.

  1. My grandfather raised rabbits for meat some years ago. Seems a good idea on the face of it, but every time slaughter time came around he cried. He would go through the motions with tears running down his face. The only time I saw him cry. Rabbits are soft, cuddly and HARD to kill.
I have killed hundreds of chickens and killed and skinned other animals but tame rabbits are HARD. I'd rather kill 10 chickens than one rabbit(and I like and respect chickens as one of Gods gifts to humanity). So I'd suggest if you think you can go down that road buy a few from a breeder and kill, skin and process a few. You might learn something about yourself. Happy eating!
